After staying up nearly 24 hours to complete her last wedding cake of the season last summer, Alice Cooke decided her business needed to undergo some changes if it was going to survive. The 53-year-old York County mother-of-two considered focusing strictly on wedding cakes and eliminating birthday, anniversary and other special event cakes from her offerings. She even toyed with the idea of getting a special use to permit from the county, which would allow her to expand her home business and hire employees.
